Funding available to support new events that have distinct Kāpiti flavour
The Kāpiti Coast District Council is inviting applications for the Kāpiti Major Events Fund.
Strategy and Planning Group Manager Sarah Stevenson says events development has been identified as a key driver in achieving long term economic development for the Kāpiti Coast District.
“$60,000 is available to develop new events that have a distinct Kāpiti flavour and attract visitors to the district in the off-season, from late March to October.”
Following the establishment of the Fund in 2016, $40,000 has been allocated to the Māoriland Film Festival, $30,000 to the Ōtaki Kite Festival, $20,000 to the Coastella Music Festival and $10,000 to the Kāpiti Food Fair, to help event organisers develop and grow their signature events.
“These events attract visitors to our district in what is traditionally a fairly quiet time of the year and help grow our reputation as a vibrant, diverse and thriving district,” Ms Stevenson said.
Applications for the 2017/18 Kāpiti Major Events Fund close at 5pm on 8 September 2017.
Final decisions about which events will receive funding will be made by the Council’s Strategy & Policy Committee on Thursday 12 October 2017.
