Important power cable works on Paraparaumu Escarpment
The Kāpiti Coast District Council is advising the community that next week, Electra will carry out highly visible works on the Paraparaumu Escarpment to secure an exposed back up power cable.
Nine, 11-metre-high poles will be winched up to the site and set into 2-metre deep holes. Once they're in, they'll sit nine metres out of the ground and the high-voltage cable will be lifted up to travel across these poles. This will be an interim solution until the state highway has been fully revocated and Electra can look at a permanent fix. Electra are working with KiwiRail to make sure winching movements are timed for when the trains are out of the area to keep everyone safe and minimise disruption.
Electra will establish a worksite at the end of Epiha Street which will be fenced off. Work will take place between the hours 8am and 5pm and are expected to take approximately two weeks.
