Kāpiti Coast community express themselves with Council team

Thousands of people took the opportunity to engage with the Kāpiti Coast District Council at the Kāpiti Coast ExpressDay on Saturday 18 February.

Corporate Services Group Manager Wayne Maxwell said with Council marquees stationed at both Te Roto Drive and Te Moana Road people embraced the opportunity to talk face-to-face with members of the Council team.

“At Te Roto Drive there was a lot of interest in tsunami evacuations zones and what measures people need to take to get their household’s prepared,” he said.

“How much water you need to store was also a topic of conversation with many indicating that they had already purchased their 200 litre emergency water tanks from our customer services team.”

The Council’s marquee at Te Moana Road was stationed alongside the Mackays to Peka Peka Alliance team.

Group Manager Infrastructure Services Sean Mallon said it was a prime location to talk to the community about Expressway-related topics and general Council business.

“People were really excited to have the opportunity to walk, bike and bus the five kilometre expressway route and it was great to see our Council-branded express yourself balloons making their way down the Expressway,” he said.
“There was a lot of interest in our work to make the most of the opportunities the Expressway will bring to our district, including our work to transform the Paraparaumu and Waikanae town centres and make the existing State Highway 1 a local road.”

Mr Mallon said that of the people he spoke to there was just as much interest in the opening of the 16 kilometre cycleway, walkway and bridleway as there was in the opening of the Expressway itself.

“The Mackays to Peka Peka Cycleway, Walkway and Bridleway was viewed by many as a tremendous addition to the Kāpiti Coast, which will certainly provide alternative transport options for those wanting travel to and between our town centres.”
