Kāpiti Lights gets new lease of life
The fences are up, digging has begun and the upgrade of Kāpiti Lights is underway.
Sean Mallon, Group Manager Infrastructure Services, says the project was identified back in 2015 following extensive engagement with the community about what they would like to see improved in the Paraparaumu town centre and it’s great to get this project off the ground.
“Our goal is to create welcoming public spaces with seating areas and quality lighting which will improve the environment and safety. This will make the area more pedestrian friendly and will help create a setting that supports new and existing shops to thrive.”
The Council’s upgrade is being delivered in three stages, with support from Coastlands and Kāpiti Lights property owners.
Stage one of the upgrade commenced early June and will see the Coastlands Parade laneway undergo a facelift. The area will feature new paving, planting, public art and lighting features.
Kāpiti Cakes and Bakery owner Mr Thomas says it’s all positive as far as he is concerned.
“The improvements will make our outdoor areas more user-friendly and we are looking forward to seeing the finished product."
Work to deliver stage two of the upgrade started last week and involves creating a public space between the Coastlands carpark off Rimu Road near the dental health centre and Kāpiti Lights.
The final stage of the upgrade involves making improvements to the State Highway 1 entrance to Kāpiti Lights. This will better connect the railway station with Kāpiti Lights and the town centre.
