Major Events Fund to support three new iconic events with local flavour
Three new iconic events will receive funding from the Kāpiti Major Events Fund this financial year.
The Kāpiti Coast Festival, Kāpiti Coast International Jazz Festival and Kāpiti Farmers’ Market will receive financial support to help establish their events in Kāpiti through the contestable funding round.
Councillor James Cootes says event development has been identified as a key driver in achieving long term economic development for the Kāpiti Coast District and it’s great to see three newcomers in the mix.
“Developing events that have a distinct Kāpiti flavour and attract visitors to the district is a priority for the Council and we are delighted to see the Kāpiti Coast Festival, Kāpiti Coast International Jazz Festival and Kāpiti Farmers’ Market increase the vibrancy of our districts major events portfolio,” said Councillor Cootes.
The Kāpiti Major Events Fund was established by the Council in 2016 to help promote and grow a vibrant major events portfolio that brings economic benefit to the district.
Through the 2017-18 funding round previous recipients, the Māoriland Film Festival, Ōtaki Kite Festival, Coastella Music Festival and the Kāpiti Food Fair, will also receive financial support to further develop and grow their signature events.
“These events are growing year on year and we want to help them reach a point where they become self-sustaining,” Councillor Cootes said.
