Matai Road detour for safety improvements
Next week a detour will be in place around Matai Road to allow contractors to install new kerb and channel safely, as part of the Raumati Road safety improvements.
Group Manager Sean Mallon says traffic entering Matai Road will take a short detour to help keep workers safe while they carry out their work.
“Next week we’ve got a lot of work to do on the south-east corner of Matai Road to install the new kerb and footpath. So our crews can do this safely, we need to close the lane that people use to turn into Matai Road from Raumati Road. We’re looking to start this closure on Monday 18 September and keep it closed for approximately a week. The closure will happen mostly during the day but at times we might need to extend it to overnight. This work is highly dependent on weather so timeframes could shift slightly if it rains.”
“While we’ve got this closure in place, people won’t be able to enter Matai Road from Raumati Road, but they will be able to exit Matai Road onto Raumati Road. So road users who travel along Raumati Road and normally turn into Matai will need to take the detour via Hillcrest and Princeton Roads. Signage and traffic management will be in place, as well as a 30km/h speed restriction, so please take extra care in the area.”
