Matthews Park gets new basketball court
The latest feature at Raumati’s Matthews Park underwent its final preparations last week, with line-marking completed on a new basketball court.
The keyhole court is a result of a submission through the Kāpiti Coast District Council’s 2014/15 Annual Plan. The submission, from the Kāpiti Coast Youth Council, included a petition signed by over 400 young people asking for a basketball court at Matthews Park.
“The court has been open for the last week,” said Council Parks and Recreation Manager Alison Law, “but with the line-marking now done, it’s complete and ready for action.”
“It’s going to be really well used,” said Kāpiti College student and Youth Council member Ben Kieboom (pictured). “A while back we put in a submission and now it’s here. It’s looking awesome.”
Kāpiti Coast District Council aims to provide a range of recreational facilities in our parks, as these play a vital role in contributing to the health and well-being of our communities. The basketball court at Matthews Park is one of a number of playground upgrades happening in the district.
