Raumati Road works update
Works to improve safety and accessibility on Raumati Road continue.
Infrastructure Services Group Manager Sean Mallon says contractors have made some progress over the past fortnight but rain continues to cause set-backs.
“Unfortunately the weather hasn’t been kind and despite working extra hours and engaging more resources we’re still three to four days behind our updated schedule.”
Work at the roundabout site has been impacted by rain this week. Mr Mallon says each time it rains more potholes appear and contractors need to scrape down and rebuild the surface to make sure the foundations are stable for the final seal.
“If the weather’s good on Sunday contractors will be working from 9am to 4pm at the roundabout site to claw back some time.”
“We know this isn’t ideal for Raumati residents and we thank everyone for their continued patience while we focus our efforts on getting this job done.”
Works to establish a new pedestrian crossing point outside Raumati Beach School are almost complete and Mr Mallon says the crossing will be ready for the start of the school term on Monday morning.
Work to re-instate the footpaths on the north side of Raumati Road outside Raumati Beach School and push out the corner at the Weka Road/Raumati Road intersection to slow down traffic is ongoing. Concrete will be poured as soon as there is a long enough dry spell of weather.
The Council is advising people to take extra care around the area whether driving or on foot, while these works continue.
