Resource Management Act amendments - Kāpiti Coast fees consultation
Kāpiti residents are encouraged to have their say on how fee levels should be set to cover the costs of implementing recent amendments to the Resource Management Act locally.
Recent amendments to the Resource Management Act require the Council to apply additional approval processes for people undertaking land use activities.
Group Manager Regulatory Services Kevin Currie says that the public's input on the fees proposed for these new activities is essential in establishing a fair schedule.
"We're looking for public feedback on the Council's proposed fees resulting from the Resource Management Act amendments that come into effect in Kāpiti on 18 October.
"We need to implement a fee schedule to help recover some of the costs that the Council is incurring through RMA requirements for processing applications because these are categories that have been added to the existing schedule of fees."
Changes to the Act include:
- Boundary 'deemed permitted' activities – Council must exempt 'boundary activities' from needing a resource consent if neighbour approval is provided.
- Marginal/temporary breaches – Council may exempt 'marginal or temporary' activities from needing resource consent.
- Fast track process – land use controlled activities must be processed within 10 working days.
