Revamped Ōtaki Pool opens its doors

Kāpiti Coast District Council Mayor K Gurunathan officially opened the revamped Ōtaki Pool yesterday, with a blessing and ribbon cutting ceremony carried out with invited stakeholders and community members. This highly anticipated opening follows on from a 10 month, $5.4 million rebuild, that includes a community designed, free-to-use splash-pad.

Ōtaki Ward Councillor James Cootes says the evening was a hit, particularly the moment the doors were opened and guests were invited to make a splash.

"From the moment guests arrived you could see the eagerness in their eyes to hit the water and try out all the new features of the new facility. Our local iwi representatives blessed the facility before speeches were made by Chris Papps, Penny Gaylor, Rupene Waaka, His Worship the Mayor and myself. The ribbon was then cut by our Mayor and Ōtaki swimming and surf lifesaving legend Napier McFedries. After the plaque was unveiled, the kids hit the pool and tried out the splash-pad. I'm very proud that we have been able to deliver such a great facility for our community and future generations."

Doors officially opened to the public at 10am this morning, with a free Aquafit class on offer, and tomorrow, locals are invited to celebrate the opening by coming along to a free pool party.
