Tsunami ready door-knocking underway in Paraparaumu
Kāpiti Coast District Council’s door-knocking team will be on the doorsteps of Paraparaumu residents living in tsunami evacuation zones over the next four weekends to provide important information about tsunami.
Council’s February 2017 research showed that around 20 per cent of people living in a zone don’t know they are.
With help from Red Cross, Volunteer Kāpiti, Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office (WREMO) and the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management (MCDEM), Council is working to raise awareness and encouraging people to be prepared.
The team is on a mission to reach the more than 20,000 people living in over 8000 properties in the district’s evacuation zones, to deliver detailed information that affects them and their property. This includes tsunami warning signs, as well as what to do and where to go if one occurs.
Following the door-knocking, Council will also host a drop-in information session between 6.30-8pm on Tuesday 29 August at the Paraparaumu Beach Bowling Club.
