WW1 competition opens for students
Young people are being encouraged to get involved in a competition which commemorates World War One (WW1).
The competition, open to Year 7-13 school students, invites entrants to present a written account or short film in English or Māori about someone who played a role in WW1, whether that person is a soldier, a nurse, a mother or a photographer etc. “This is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in the World War One centenary commemorations on an exciting project,” Mayor K Gurunathan says. “Initiatives like this will ensure we don’t forget those people who sacrificed their lives for us during the war and that we continue to honour their efforts.”
Prizes are Samsung tablets for individuals and a digital camera for schools in each category. The deadline for entries is 26 May 2017.
