Council confirms solution for failing tar seal on Mazengarb Road and Guildford Drive
The Kāpiti Coast District Council is pleased Downer New Zealand is responding to its calls for immediate action to repair the failing tar seal on Mazengarb Road with asphalt.
“Downer New Zealand have agreed to begin work to asphalt Mazengarb Road and put an end to the ongoing issues we’ve been experiencing with the Road’s surface,” says Group Manager Infrastructure Services, Sean Mallon.
Mr Mallon says the work will start work tomorrow, but the amount achieved may be limited by weather. Downer are clearing the excess chip off both sites today and will begin asphalting tomorrow.
“Downer have committed to making a start this side of Christmas and will return in the New Year to finish it off.”
“Unfortunately there will be some disruption for residents and road users when they are working, but we felt the situation needed sorting out quickly.”
Mr Mallon says Downer is proceeding with work on Mazengarb Road first (before Guildford Drive) because it is the busiest road and most in need of attention.
“Downer have committed resources to Mazengarb Road and aim to have the surface up to scratch as quickly possible, and they also expect to start work on Guildford Drive next year.”
Mr Mallon says final costs, and how the work will be paid for, will be determined as part of contractual discussions between Downer and the Council early next year.
“In the meantime, we’re just happy to have reached a solution that’ll bring Mazengarb Road and Guildford Drive back up to scratch.”
