Councillors back to work on completing draft 20-year plan
The business of Council is back up and running for the year, with the first full Council meeting for the year held this morning, followed by a long term plan public workshop.
Mayor K Gurunathan says there was no chance of easing back in slowly, with a big year ahead and the draft of Council’s long term plan to be settled in the next few weeks.
Once finalised, the Council’s long term plan will become the roadmap for the years ahead.
“To ensure we make progress towards our long term outcomes, there’s a lot of detail that needs to be included in our plan,” says the Mayor.
“We’re working through the process of considering and weighing up options in public workshops in the coming weeks.”
The next Council long term plan workshop is on 1 February. At this workshop councillors will be looking at possible alternatives for how rates are allocated across the district and options for responding to affordability concerns. The public are welcome to observe these presentations and discussions.
“We know from past experience that this is a subject close to many people’s hearts – let alone their pockets. I’d encourage anyone who’s interested to join us next Thursday.”
“We’re starting to get to the real meaty issues now, as we get closer to agreeing a draft long term plan. Towards the end of March we’ll be sharing this with the community and look forward to hearing people’s thoughts on the big questions we’ve been working through.”
