Full steam ahead for Maclean Park refresh
The Kāpiti Coast District Council’s enhancements to Maclean Park are continuing this week, with contractors working to expand the recreational grass area.
“We’re transforming the area originally covered by the kiosk and pond into a recreational grass space,” says Kāpiti Coast District Council Parks and Recreation Manager Alison Law.
“The space will be developed in steps, with the kiosk area ready for use by the summer break, followed by the remaining pond area by mid-2019.”
Ms Law says the extra space will provide more room to relax and enjoy a wide range of recreational activities, and is part of the first stage of the Council’s re-development of Maclean Park.
“The plan is to have the entire first stage, which also includes the installation of outdoor furniture and BBQs, completed by mid-2019.”
Ms Law says later stages of the Park’s development will include a pedestrian route from the top of Maclean Street to the boating club; an all year round interactive water feature for children to play in; an activity space for older persons; and a scooter track.
“The future of Maclean Park is very much a community-led vision, shaped by residents, local businesses, community groups and our iwi partners, Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai and Ngāti Toa Rangatira.”
