Have your say – bylaw consultations kick off

This week consultation opened for two Kāpiti Coast District Council draft bylaws, and the Council’s inviting you to have your say on proposed changes. The bylaws up for consultation are the Control of Alcohol in Public Places Bylaw 2018, and the Trade Waste Bylaw 2018.

The Control of Alcohol in Public Places Bylaw consultation opened on Monday 10 September. The purpose of this bylaw is to encourage responsible drinking, enhance public safety, and make sure everyone can enjoy our District's public places. To do this, the Council uses the bylaw to provide alcohol-free zones in public places, during certain dates and times. The review is being carried out as a legal requirement, but Council isn’t suggesting any changes to the existing alcohol-free zones. Detailed information about the proposed amendments to the bylaw can be found at www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/app-bylaw, and submissions close Friday 19 October 2018.

The Trade Waste Bylaw consultation opened Thursday 13 September. The Trade Waste Bylaw 2007 is a legal document the Council uses to manage trade waste discharges that enter the Kāpiti wastewater system. It allows the Council to manage and prevent sewer overflows, blockages and infrastructure damage. It also helps protect the environment and works to minimise health and safety risks to our workers and the community. A few key amendments to the bylaw are being proposed and a Statement of Proposal and questions and answers can be found at www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/trade-waste-bylaw-consult. These outline everything you need to know about the proposed changes. This consultation will be open for two months, closing Tuesday 13 November.

Following consultation, hearings will be held where submitters can come along and talk to the Council about their submission.
