Kāpiti Coast Airport opens its doors to the community on Sunday 5 August

Kapiti Coast Airport and Kāpiti Coast District Council have announced a community open day will be held at the Kapiti Coast Airport on Sunday 5 August, 10am to 3pm.

The event will showcase everything that’s on offer at Kāpiti’s local airport and help introduce Air Chathams to Kāpiti.

“We’re very excited to see this event coming together, and we are looking forward to meeting the Kāpiti community face to face,” says Duane Emeny, Air Chatham’s General Manager.

Several members of the Air Chathams team will be on site for the open day, and visitors will have the opportunity to see the Saab 340 that will soon be flying between Kāpiti and Auckland, with the option to purchase scenic rides on Air Chathams’ DC3.

“We’ll be bringing all the team and aircraft we can to give Kāpiti a real live taste of who we really are, and the kind of customer experience they can expect from our crews and the planes they fly,” Mr Emeny said.

There will also be about 20 other modern and historic aircraft on display, including those operated by other airport providers, including Soundsair, Heliworx and the Kāpiti Aero Club.

Some providers will be offering flights to the public, and visitors will be able to purchase food from the airport café and food trucks set up for the day.

Council is supporting the community event as part of its ongoing #FlyKāpiti promotions and will be announcing further details about the event over the next few weeks on its website and in local media.
