Maclean Park upgrade moving along as planned

The first stage of the implementation of the Maclean Park long-term development plan kicks off in the coming months, with the work scheduled for completion by June 2019.

Kāpiti Coast District Council Parks and Recreation Manager Alison Law says it would be good to have this first stage of development completed by the Christmas school holidays, but the project’s progress will depend on contractor availability.

“This work paves the way for the park’s future long-term development, as detailed in the management plan. By the end of June 2019, depending on final costs, we expect to have the following upgrades completed:

• removal of the pond and kiosk;
• expansion of the grass and open space area over the existing pond space;
• landscaping and contouring to make the new space as usable as possible;
• installation of a barbeque with shelter and additional park furniture; and
• a start to the central path through the park.”

Ms Law says that should the budget allow, Council also intends to relocate the basketball court and begin work on the scooter path.

Since November 2016 over 1500 people, businesses and organisations have shared their ideas for Maclean Park. Using this feedback and working with iwi partners, Council created a management plan for the park that captures the diverse needs of the Kāpiti Coast community and allows for improvements to the its main attractions over time.
