Locals to get mobile with All Ages On the Go Expo
Media release from Greater Wellington Regional Council:
The 'All Ages on the Go Expo' is coming to the Waikanae War Memorial Hall on Saturday September 21 to encourage positive, active community participation for all people of all ages and abilities.
Sue Emirali from the Accessibility Advisory Group, who are organising the event alongside the Kāpiti Older Persons Council and Council Transport Safety, says the expo will be a great opportunity to get out and about in their communities and keep active.
“We also hope to increase the awareness of social, recreational, health and lifestyle opportunities for people in the area and to promote different modes of transport and inspire people.
“We have over 40 stall-holders signed up, including an outside stall for electric/ Hybrid cars, e-bike and mobility scooter, providers to talk about these alternative ways of staying mobile,” Sue says.
Rotary’s Inner Wheel members will be providing a pop up café for expo goers with funds going to the Sweet Louise fundraising.
“Throughout the day there will talks, a number of which will focus on ways of getting around including public transport. There will also be Zumba and yoga demonstrations as well as workshops, spot prizes and goodie bag giveaways.
“The Expo passport will be back this year and attendees can pick one up on their way in and get it stamped at each stall to be in for the prize draw,” Sue says.
Greater Wellington Regional Council Sustainable Transport Committee Chair Barbara Donaldson says this event will provide the opportunity to meet people from a range of different groups.
“We want people to feel safe and confident getting around our region so we are very appreciative of the Accessibility Advisory Group and their co-organisers for putting together this not-for-profit event.
“It is also conveniently located right next to the Waikanae train station, so people can catch a bus or train there on the day,” Cr Donaldson says.
The ‘All Ages On the Go Expo’ is a free event and will run 10am-3pm on Saturday, September 21.
