More Maclean Park enhancements on the way
The Council’s re-development of Maclean Park will pick up again next week, with more recreational space, covered BBQs, outdoor furniture and a new re-located basketball court all set to appear over the next few months.
“Late last year we kicked off the first stage of our re-development of Maclean Park, which will create more space for people to relax and enjoy a wide range of recreational activities,” says Parks and Recreation Manager Alison Law.
“Next week our contractors will be back on board to finish off the first stage. This includes expanding the new grass area to fill in the remainder of the pond, landscaping, and installing BBQs and furniture.
“They’ll then upgrade and relocate the basketball court further away from the road and start work on a pathway along the centre of the park. The plan is to have the first stage all done and dusted by the middle of the year.”
Ms Law says the later stages of the park’s development are still some time away and will be informed by the Maclean Park Development Plan, which was finalised after public consultation in 2017.
“Later stage additions we’re considering include an all year round interactive water feature; an activity space for older persons; and a utility building with showers, toilets and a rest area.”
“It was great to see people out making the most of the park over the summer, and next summer will be even better with the first stage of our re-development plan complete.
“The future of Maclean Park is very much a community-led vision, shaped by residents, local businesses, community groups and our iwi partners, Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai and Ngāti Toa Rangatira.”
