Neighbours Day launches #lovemyneighbourhood
It’s Neighbours Day on the Kāpiti Coast and now, more than ever, it’s important to get to know your neighbours, and look out for those who share your neck of the woods.
Kāpiti Coast District Council Connected Communities Manager Tania Parata says Neighbours Day Aotearoa is the perfect way to take that first step in getting to know your neighbours better, or to renew the relationships you've already created.
“Over the next ten days, we’ll see Over the Fence Cuppa events happening across the District in celebration of Neighbours Day. They’re small get-togethers in local neighbourhoods organised by neighbours within those communities and they’re a great way to connect and have fun while you’re doing it.”
“Even if you missed our registration deadline for a party pack, you can still get great ideas from our website to throw your own Over the Fence Cuppa. The important thing is just to get out there and get to know each other. You never know when you might need to lean on your neighbours.”
Ms Parata says neighbours are the lifeblood of our communities, and they’re more than the people who live in the house next door.
“We all have neighbours. Of course, they’re who we live next to, but they’re also who we work with, the people we buy our groceries from, families at our children’s school. Neighbours are the people who share our lives in some way, however small, and Neighbours Day is a great opportunity to get to know them.”
“With this in mind, we’re excited to launch #lovemyneighbourhood. Over the next few months as we head towards winter, we’ll be putting a big focus on neighbourhoods all across the Kāpiti Coast, and how we can all do our bit to love and look after the people, and the land that make up our neighbourhoods. We’ll put a spotlight on getting to know your neighbours, doing your bit to after your neck of the woods, and encouraging everyone to share stories about what makes their neighbourhood great.
“To kick this off, if you’re celebrating Neighbours Day over the next ten days, hashtag your photos with #lovemyneighbourhood and post them to Instagram and Facebook to share.”
This year’s Neighbours Day marks ten years of celebrating in our communities and will take place over ten days between 22 and 31 March.
