Parking changes for Kāpiti civic precinct

Parking changes at the Kāpiti Coast District Council civic precinct in Paraparaumu will free up space for library users and improve access for disabled drivers.

From November 18 parking times directly outside the Paraparaumu Library will be shortened from the current four hour limits to either one, two or three hour spaces.

Group Manager Infrastructure Services Sean Mallon says the changes are designed to make the library accessible to more people.

“We’ve heard from library users and those visiting the council that it can be difficult to get a park when they need one so we are making some changes to free up more spaces,” Mr Mallon says.

“By providing both one, two and three hour spaces, rather than four hours, will free up parks more frequently so more people will be able to enjoy our wonderful library services.”

Those who need to park for longer than three hours, for example to attend a first aid course or meeting, will still be able to find four-hour parking spaces by the adjacent Community Centre.

Meanwhile, parking changes have also been introduced at Kāpiti Rd and Tongariro St in Paraparaumu.

Between 240 Kāpiti Rd and Langdale Ave now has a four-hour parking limit, while a section of Tongariro St also has four-hour limits.

“Long-term parking on Kāpiti Rd has created some safety and visibility issues, while commuter parking is spilling into Tongariro St and blocking resident access and obscuring pedestrian ramps,” Mr Mallon says.
