Upgrades to Ratanui Road/Mazengarb Road intersection now confirmed
The Council’s Operations and Finance Committee today gave the go-ahead to upgrades that will improve traffic flow and safety at the Ratanui Road/Mazengarb Road intersection – an increasingly busy road in Paraparaumu.
“Towards the middle of the year we’ll be starting work on a roundabout at the intersection to reduce traffic congestion on Ratanui Road, which has been causing significant delays for drivers,” says Access and Transport Manager, Glen O’Connor.
“It’s also a busy intersection for students heading to and from Paraparaumu College, so we’ll be widening the foot path and installing crossing points on either side of the intersection.”
Mr O’Connor says the project was originally expected to take place in about two years’ time. However, a subsidy from the NZ Transport Agency allowed the Council to re-allocate some funding for another project - an emergency rail crossing in Waikanae - and bring it forward.
“Today’s vote effectively gave consent for the funding to be transferred so the upgrades can begin earlier. As planned the installation of the rail crossing will also begin in the next month or so.”
“This is a major intersection on an important road linking the Waikanae and Paraparaumu communities. We’re pleased to have been able to bring the works forward.”
