Kāpiti Health Advisory Group
The Kāpiti Health Advisory Group (KHAG) works with Council to make health services easier to get for everyone in Kāpiti. Having access to healthcare is important, as it helps keep our community healthy. Local councils help make sure everyone can get the healthcare they need.
KHAG started in 2017 to give advice to the Mayor, and was led by Councillor Kathy Spiers for almost five years. Since 2023 they have been an advisory group to Council’s Social Sustainability Committee, under their Terms of Reference [PDF 194 KB].
The group gives Council advice on health and wellbeing issues, especially related to Council’s Health Strategy. They also suggest ways Council can work with others to make health services better for the community.

The Kāpiti Health Advisory Group has up to 12 members, including a chair and deputy chair. Five members lead special working groups that also have expert members. Each group works on different projects.

- access to services

- population health

- transport.
Projects
Each year KHAG makes a plan for the next 12 months and shares it with the Social Sustainability Committee. Some projects are long term, like creating a 24/7 polyclinic with urgent care, specialist services, an urgent pharmacy, and an extended general practice. Others are shorter term, like working with Council and other Kāpiti groups on specific issues.
KHAG updates the Social Sustainability Committee on their progress at every meeting.
Meetings
KHAG meets every month.
