Fishing off the beach
Our beaches have great fishing for surfcasters and longline users.
All fishers must make sure:
- their lines and equipment are not safety hazards for other beach users
- they monitor their lines at all times, and never leave them unattended.
Cleaning fish
Fishers must not use dressing sheds or toilets to clean their fish or equipment.
Longline fishing rules and summer restrictions
Longline fishing off the beach is permitted on all Kāpiti beaches, with restrictions in busy beach areas during summer.
People fishing with longlines must make their line visible to others using the beach by placing flags on the line. Our Beach Bylaw 2021 states:
Longline users may not fish off the beach/foreshore in the following locations:
- from 15 December to 15 February
- between 10am and 5pm.
