Meanwhile Space

Located on the lawn near the old Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre in central Paraparaumu.

The Meanwhile Space is a vibrant community hub located in the heart of Paraparaumu, designed to foster connection, creativity, and enjoyment for all ages. Developed collaboratively by local groups such as Kāpiti Art Studio, Kāpiti Horticulture Society, and the Shed Project Kāpiti, this space offers a variety of interactive activities and attractions. Opened recently, it aims to fill the gap left by the closure of the Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre, transforming an underused area into a lively, inclusive, and fun environment for the whole community.

Why it's special 

Collaborative creation

The Meanwhile Space stands out for its collaborative approach, involving multiple local organizations in its design and development. This co-design process ensures that the space reflects the needs and values of the community. By repurposing materials and involving local artisans, the project was delivered on a modest budget, maximizing impact and sustainability.

With activities ranging from a sensory footpath to an outdoor ping pong table, there’s always something fun to do.
