Tākiri o te ata Kaumātua Whakangāhau
Tākiri o te ata Kaumātua Whakangāhau, our Kaumātua Day, is an annual celebration of our kaumātua, when our community come together to connect, sing, dance, perform and show the best cultural entertainment in celebration.
Te Whakaminenga o Kāpiti and Kāpiti Coast District Council are proud supporters of this special day.
Piki mai, kake mai, tau mai rā
The 2024 event was held on Saturday 13 July 2024, at Te Raukura ki Kāpiti, kicking off with a pōwhiri at 8am. The day also included:
- kai stalls
- hauora (health) checks
- toi Māori (Māori art)
- tamariki activities
- entertainment groups from 9am – with 13 performances throughout the day.
Everyone in our community's welcome at this free event; events finished up at 3.30pm
All friends and whānau welcome at this day of fun, kai, singing, and free cultural kaumātua entertainment at its finest.
