Movies in the Park

Movies in the Park returned Waikanae Park on Saturday 22 February 2025.

It was a fantastic eventing of free films, fresh air, and fun with the whānau. It was a fabulous way to farewell another Kāpiti summer. People packed a picnic, brought popcorn, and sunggled under the stars with a cozy blanket.

Both sessions were free - no tickets required. Food vendors were on-site to buy treats.  

This was a smoke, vape and alcohol-free event to help keep everyone healthy and safe.  

It was also a dog free event, so furry friends stayed at home.

About this event

The fun started at 4pm with free activities for our tamariki, including the Waka Kori play trailer, set up for some serious play action. People arrived early to find a park and get a good possie and settle in for an evening of entertainment.

There were onsite food vendors including the Ice Cream and Slushy Truck, as well as Coffee To Die For, Kwality Kandyfloss, Berrylush and a BBQ from our friends at Waikanae Rugby Club.

At 5pm, Woody and Buzz took everyone on an adventure to infinity and beyond with Toy Story.

Then, at 7pm, Pink Ladies and leather jackets came out as the crowd sang along to well-loved tunes because Grease was the word.

Whether you were after a whānau friendly outing, a date night under the star-lit skies, or a trip down memory lane with your besties, this year's Movies in the Park ticked all the boxes. 

Parking

There was additional traffic in the area, so people needed to additional time for travel and to find a park. Public parking was available in the Pony Club land off Park Avenue.  If parking roadside, people were asked to keep driveways clear and be courteous of residents.
