Waka Kori play trailer
You might have seen our Waka Kori play trailer out and about in our parks and schools. Play is super important for our tamariki’s physical and mental health, and our Waka Kori makes it possible to go out to communities for pop-up play sessions. There is so much good stuff that happens when we play.
You can book our Waka Kori play trailer for your next event. It's a treasure chest of loose parts, designed to spark the imagination and inspire creative play for all ages.
There is no fee to hire our play trailer (except for missing or damaged equipment). Instead, we ask that you help develop the story of positive impact of play, and you're welcome to donate a piece of play equipment.
Waka Kori play trailer bookings are considered on a case-by-case basis and must be confirmed by Council.
All children have a right to play. Child-initiated and -directed play, free of adult influence, is a vital part of our physical and cognitive development. Play:
- builds brains
- grows confidence
- connects community.
Help play thrive by creating time, permission and space for tamariki to play!
The positive benefits of play include:
- being physically active in a fun way that develops fundamental movement skills
- encouraging self-directed creativity and innovation
- improving social and emotional connection
- connecting tamariki to their physical surrounding
- improving resilience, independence and leadership by determining their own outcome
- aiding better decision-making based around elements of challenge and risk.
