Apply for code compliance certificate

Gaining a code compliance certificate (CCC) is the final step in the building consent process. The CCC confirms that Council is satisfied the completed works comply with the building consent.

The application is made under the Building Act 2004, and the application form content is set by regulation.

Restricted building work (RBW) may only be carried out by a licensed building practitioner (LBP) on any building consent containing RBW. Your building consent will indicate whether RBW is involved.

Obtaining your certificate

When all work under a consent is complete, you can request a final inspection.

For building consents issued from 31 March 2005, projects should be completed within two years of the granting of the building consent.

If the work has been completed in accordance with your consent and in compliance with the Building Code, you must apply for a Code Compliance Certificate, accompanied by all the documentation required as part of your building consent, before the Council can issue a Code Compliance Certificate.
Note: you'll need to make this application within six months of the final inspection being carried out. If more than six months have passed since your final inspection, you'll need to book another final inspection to confirm that there have been no subsequent changes affecting the building consent work. 

If the work does not comply, the Council will issue a Notice to Fix identifying areas of non-compliance.
